"The overall benefits of green marketing are far more vast than anyone can imagine." Linda Case, Founder |
The Chestnut Hill area of Pennsylvania, which is located in the northwestern corner of Philadelphia, has many architecturally significant historic homes. At the suggestion of a client, the folks at Creative Contracting, Inc., got involved with their local Historical Society. “We felt that this was a worthwhile investment because of our established relationship and because we hoped it will be a good source of leads for clients in a desirable neighborhood who take pride in their location, history, and homes,” says Kim DuBree, owner of and a designer at the North Wales, Pa.-based design/build remodeling firm.
This spring, Creative Contracting sponsored the Historical Society’s annual Derby Day party, which drew more than 100 people. Sponsorship included a reception before the event, the Derby party, signage recognition, recognition during the event, and the opportunity to distribute marketing materials in gift bags given to all attendees.
Each gift bag contained a Creative Contracting marketing brochure, a water bottle, a key chain, coupons from local merchants, a cookie, and something special—a gift card for Seed the Future (www.seed-the-future.com), which was attached to the marketing brochure. “Recipients can enter a code and have a tree planted in a reforestation project,” DuBree explains. Creative Contracting purchased the gift cards through its local Minuteman Press and inserted them in coin envelopes, purchased separately, to give them more of a gift-card “feel.”
"The Historical Society’s new marketing director had some pictures taken of us at the event and they will be featured in their newsletter,” says DuBree. “I can also use these photos in our own e-newsletters to let our customer base learn of our sponsorship. We have not received any leads yet, but it is a new relationship and developing relationships takes some time. I hope the attendees will look at the seed cards and go to the Web site.”
If you’d like to reach out to prospects in a unique way, take DuBree’s advice and use a wide net of options to appeal to the interests of potential clients. Green marketing is always a good option. “Some people may think that green initiatives are wonderful—and some couldn’t care less—but there is no downside to helping the environment,” says the remodeler.
