Search Firm Does Hiring Legwork

When the folks at Advanced Kitchens needed a part-time bookkeeper, they tapped a relatively new resource and found a great employee.

A friend told Sharon Cholfin, co-owner and office manager of the Marietta, Ga.-based remodeling firm, about MomCorps (www.momcorps.com). The company matches experienced, professional women seeking part-time work with businesses that are looking for skilled employees and can offer a flexible work schedule. Through MomCorps, Sharon hired Laura, whom she describes as a full-charge bookkeeper.

Laura, who has an accounting degree and construction industry experience, works 20 to 30 hours a week for Advanced Kitchens. Her duties include data processing tasks for invoices, estimates, spreadsheets, and other financial documents and tools. She also is responsible for human resource functions and pulling reports from QuickBooks for the company owner and the production team. As soon as she came aboard, she took ownership of learning the Work In Progress spreadsheet and made herself familiar with the reports she needs to pull for that monthly task.

“I do not have an accounting background and pretty much taught myself a lot about QuickBooks with the help of Remodelers Advantage,” says Sharon. “That being said, it would be a struggle for me to accomplish everything required of a professional accountant. Laura loves numbers. You need that type of person to run your books and stay on top of bookkeeping, accounting, and taxes.”

Sharon appreciated MomCorps’ careful screening process and the quality of talent they sent her. “They were so helpful,” she says. “I interviewed three very qualified candidates. In the end, we felt Laura was the best fit for our company.”
